Of course, this being West Virginia, the cheering could have been for their first exposure to electricity and the “flying pictures through the air” of television. Saw the same thing happen once in Atlanta when a group from Macon, a place whose tallest building is two stories, saw an escalator on New Year’s Eve and cheered those “stairs that move” like they’d seen the Virgin Mary in a finished plate of gravy fries.
